I would like a good explanation as to why you didn't just cut the flooring around the posts and then put back the Finish pieces around that?
Looks nice. Any expansion and contraction with these boards or is it pretty stable?
Should have had aluminum pedestal bases under the wood columns.
This is a very old video but I was curious. Everything in my 97 year old house isn't square or uniform, I just removed the layers of sheathing and siding outside hah, studs every 5"-25". How did you finish this floor and make it look so good. Measure enough 1/16 and 1/32" gaps until the total was met ? Or did you actually find a way to gap each board 1/42 or whatever it was ? A piece of paper is 0.004 " thick lol... So stack a few as a spacer? So 5 pages gets you close enough?
Michael, Thanks for the question. First, we removed the old porch boards and did extra bracing to the joists below. Then, and this is the real trick, we install AZEK Porch Boards from www.vintagewoodworks.com. They are made from Cellular PVC with color (various choices) consistent throughout the material. They also are made so that when installed tightly together the small crack you see in the video remains. No extra spacing required. And this porch floor still looks as good as the day it was installed!
@@vwwtv interesting, thanks
@1:28 was that guy hoping to be shot by a piece of that board. I've never seen anyone standing in front of a saw before.
Only used cedar, cypress, and redwood for trim and vertical grained fir for floor decking when restoring old house exteriors. When my local building supply started carrying Axek I used it on a small restoration that needed custom moldings to match the originals. Had custom knives made and using my shaper the Azek moldings I made were indistinguishable from the original wood ones. Used it next on a full house restoration that was built in1902. The clients architect was not convinced that PVC would have the same look as wood until I showed him previous restorations we did. In the end we used Azek for everything except for the cedar bevel siding and bead board for the porch ceiling. Years ago I never thought I would be using PVC to replace wood. Today I would only use Azek for exterior work. It holds paint better than wood and I wish it was available in 1982 when I restored my 1898 Victorian.
Beautiful
thank you very much for all the infos.
Excellente explanation for the "cheating " section. Thank you very much.
I am sure you'll learn how to make it if you'll read WoodPrix HANDBOOKS from cover to cover :)
I know that you can get solutions for that on woodprix website. just google 'woodprix' :)))
